Captain Alan Orr of the Federation Starship Sightron has announced a new line of photon powered hunting riflescopes. I've hunted with Sightron riflescopes for many, many years. In fact, on the last trip to South Africa, both of our rifles were Sightron equipped. Over the last several years, Sightron has done very well with their higher end target and tactical scopes. The Sighton SII and SII Big Sky scopes I've enjoyed for so long have vanished from the line in favor of the S-TAC and other models.

The new Sightron S1 G2 line is a “scope scope” line. With notably clear glass and fully multicoated lenses, they are tailor made for the hunter that wants a noticeable performance jump up from the included “deer rifle in a box” type of glass box, but isn't in the mood for an excessively heavy five or six hundred dollar scope, either. This 3-9 hunting scope weighs 13.6 oz., has 70 MOA of internal adjustment, and comes with your choice of reticle: Duplex, HHR, or Mil-Dot. I'm a fan of the HHR “Hunter Hold-Over Reticle” for its uncluttered, two holdover point feature is easy and quick to use. The factory specifications follow.

The S1 is a good looking scope, with the anodizing evenly applied. The ocular quick focus and the zoom ring are well machined and turn smoothly. Sightron says this scope is shockproof to 1000G, putting its rating above any common centerfire cartridge. A 7mm Remington Magnum is 534g, a .338 RUM is 842g, and and .375 H&H is 989g by several common metrics. The S1 is what some scopemakers call “.375 H & H rated.”
