Bushnell's Elite 4500 2.5 x 10: The Hunting Scope of the Year
Well over a dozen years ago, the Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10 x 40mm was one of the best all-around “do anything” hunting scopes on the market, and one of my personal favorites. Made by Light Optical Works of Japan, there was only one thing that some might have found objectionable for high-recoil applications, and that was the less than generous eye relief. Bushnell has taken the cost out of the scope by using South Korean production, and come up with a markedly better optic in the process.
Well, at long last, for 2021 the Bushnell do everything scope is back and it is better than ever. It now has generous eye relief set at 4.3 inches, a very strong 30mm tube, a wider range of internal adjustments, and has an appealing price of of $269.99 MSRP. It looks to be the best all-around hunting scope on the market under $300. The Bushnell published specifications tell the story.
For a very long time, there has been big gap in the market. Lots of folks want reliable, clear optics, but aren't all that keen on the $600 price point that often entails. Bushnell has nailed it here, with a $270 MSRP scope that has a strong 30mm tube, clear fully multi-coated glass surfaces, and at long last, good eye relief. I don't think you can do better in a tough, versatile hunting scope for under three hundred dollars today. The stronger tube, more generous eye relief, and affordable price combine to set this optic apart from the pack.
