Impala Plus “The One Good and Cheap Shotgun” Even though the price of a shotgun is trivial compared to the total cost of hunting and shooting, there has always been a fascination with inexpensive shotguns. Over the years, they come and they go. Today, the firearms industry in general is experiencing a downturn, much of it self-inflicted as in the case of RemArms. Once accepted as “America's Shotgun,” pump shotguns have fallen into disfavor, with the discontinuation of the Browning BPS, the Ithaca M37, and the non-production of RemArms 870s. Now, some 58 years after the creation of the Bruno Civolani action, Browning and many others are still "working on it." It is the simple and cheap to produce short-recoil “inertia action” that currently dominates low-cost shotguns and has helped along the demise of slide-action popularity. No American shotgun maker has bothered to produce an inertia semi-auto which is a puzzling shame. Anyway, it is tough to compete with cost of production in Turkey. The Impala Plus has been available for several years by now, https://www.chuckhawks.com/PreviewImpalaPlus.html , produced by Istanbul Silah which in turn has a long track record of production for Herstal Group . Winchester / Browning. Right now, you can get an Impala Plus walnut 12 gauge for the shockingly low price of $365.71, https://www.kygunco.com/product/kfi-usa-impala-12-gauge-28in-black-4rd . Your basic black Impala Plus with a plastic stock is even less, https://www.kygunco.com/product/kfi-usa-impala-12-gauge-28in-black-4rd , at $325.88. The Impala Plus is 12 gauge only, the announced 20 gauge apparently is not happening, but it has a legit Invector Plus barrel, a five year warranty, and extra barrels are available from the importer, KFI: https://kfifirearms.com/ . This was the “Bargain of 2022” and it is even a greater bargain today. I've tested both the walnut and plastic versions: https://chuckhawks.com/ImpalaPlus12BestBargain.html . I personally strongly prefer the walnut. For those who don't care to spend a lot of money for a 12 gauge semi-auto, the Impala Plus is the hot ticket-- this is a shotgun where no one could possibly complain about the value for the dollar proposition. Though the Impala Plus 20 gauge is not happening, KFI has mentioned that for 2026 they will have a new offering dubbed the “Forester” said to be coming in 12, 20, 28 gauge, and .410 bore. |
