The Best Time to Buy Guns and Ammo is Right Now

There is no indication that inflation is going to quickly go away. Nor is there any indication that shipping time and costs are going to drop. The biggest single imported source for loaded ammunition was Russia, accounting for about 40% of ammo imported into the United States. Propellant has been imported from Australia heavily, but now Australia has just set a record high of covid hospitalizations.

Shipping lanes are crowded, world-wide, with the cost of moving a standard 40 foot steel container by sea particularly from Europe staying high. US East Coast rates from Europe are 42% higher than a year ago, and are at about 4X pre-pandemic norms. If what you are looking for comes from Europe, price hikes are inevitable.

The NSSF reports: “The White House’s press people are denying it, but NSSF learned from Winchester Ammunition that they were being told that M855/SS109 ammunition sales to civilians from the Lake City, Mo., facility are on the chopping block. That would potentially choke off over 30 percent of the ammunition used on AR-15 style rifles by law-abiding citizens. It would also risk the jobs of up to 500 employees and the Defense Department’s ability to surge ammunition production during increased operational tempo periods.”

Yes, there is more. Again, from the NSSF: “The White House’s credibility on ammunition is further in tatters after it was unveiled that the administration is attempting a Faustian bargain for hunters. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) proposed a rule that would open hunting on 19 National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs) in exchange for a ban on traditional lead core ammunition. The Proposed Rule is completely without scientific foundation and, in fact, comes on the heels of the anti-hunting group Center for Biological Diversity’s (CBD) petition calling for a Secretarial Order requiring the phaseout of traditional ammunition on the entire Refuge System and initiate formal rule making to phase out traditional ammunition by Sept. 30, 2024. CBD is also involved in a “sue and settle” scheme with USFWS. The anti-hunting group took USFWS to federal court in Montana seeking to ban traditional ammunition and USFWS immediately moved into settlement discussions that continue today. The hostility the Biden administration holds against the firearm industry isn’t limited to firearms or even accessories. It can be measured 62 grains and one “green-tip” at a time.” We apparently now have a government extremely soft on crime, soft on criminals, but extremely harsh on regular American citizens.

Apparently, Russia is winning the war in Ukraine, despite $53 billion in U.S. taxpayer dollars (so far) gifted to Ukraine for vague reasons with no tracking. The U.K., France, and Italian governments are in fractured disarray, while Germany burns coal. Germany begs Russia for more natural gas, the U.S. begs Saudi Arabia, all the while while driving China, Russia, India, and Iran closer together. Ukraine has claimed that post-war reconstruction will cost $750 billion, even they have no clue when post-war might actually occur, and can hardly see what might be left of the landscape.

We seem to forget that Russia is the largest country in the world, about 11% of the world's total land mass. While the United States did occupy Iraq in its search for the mythical weapons of mass destruction that were not there, Russia does indeed have weapons of mass destruction, the largest nuclear arsenal in the world, and they are not inclined to allow occupation. Inflation hit 8.6% for the 19 Euro-zone countries in June. The economic collapse of Europe is in full swing, with the United States poised to follow suit.

It is likely right now is the time to buy guns and ammunition, for nothing suggests anything will improve over the next two years.
