Two years ago we reviewed the Boresmith Jag Brushes and Triangle Patches and determined they were the best on the market. However, until now, shooters who used cable cleaning systems, like those manufactured by Otis, were out of luck.

Rigel products has introduced a new line of triple purpose bore brushes for cable cleaning kits. They were so confident that these would find a comfortable niche in the market that they spent the money to immediately obtain a utility patent.

For those who have never applied for a patent, you can get a one year Provisional Patent on a new design for $100. However, if you decide to obtain a regular utility patent you are looking at an investment of several thousand dollars and a $1,000 maintenance fee every four years for the government to keep it current.

This is, in our opinion, a rip-off by the government, but that is the way it is. In any event, the folks at Rigel spent the money and have a full utility patent on their cable-brush system. They think their Triple Purpose Jag Brushes for cables are that good.

The Triple Purpose One Pull Field Brush works as follows: A patch soaked with solvent wraps around smaller radial diameter bristles, the large diameter bristles at the middle brush the bore and a patch soaked in gun oil in the rear loop lubes and protects.

The combination of brush with patch does not get stuck inside the bore, because the Jag-Brush design features two diameters. The front half of a Jag Brush has a radial diameter smaller than the bore, giving it the ability to hold a patch and wipe the bore without getting stuck. The rear half of a Jag Brush has a radial diameter larger than the bore, allowing it to brush the bore.

Boresmith Jag Brushes are for rifles, shotguns and barrels removed from semi-auto pistols. The 2.75-inch rifle Jag Brushes are longer than 2.0-inch standard rifle brushes. With the cable connector included, the brushes have a total length of 4.25 inches. This is why the barrels must be removed from semi-automatic pistols.

The cable brushes are available for .22, .223, 5.56 mm, .30, .308, 30-06, 7.62mm and 7.5mm all of the most common calibers. They can be ordered with nylon or phosphor bronze bristles. The 2015 MSRP is $3.25 and they are available from the Regal online store: www.rigelproducts.com. Or, you can call their customer service line at 1-336-608-9355. Rigel has everything you need to professionally clean your firearms, be they antique or modern.
